Book Series: Narnia By C. S. Lewis

Narnia, a household name for a book series written by C.S. Lewis. The book series includes seven books. I chose it for my book report because the story is intriguing and it can trick you into thinking that a world like that could be real. It takes places during world war two, in England. The siblings were moved to the uncle's house in the countryside. During a rainy day, the children play hide and seek. The youngest, Lucy, hides in a wardrobe. She finds an icy world, a world that would be impossible in the mind of an unimaginative adult. She finds a lamp post as well as a faun, whose name is Tumnus. They become friends and she is taken to the fauns house. She is sent home when Tumnus believes that the secret police is listening. The secret police in the fantasy world are the trees, birds, and the animals. Only some of them are part of the secret police. These are the ones that are on the side of the Ice Queen. When she returns home she tells her siblings that there is a magical land. Of course, they don't believe her.

Later, Edmund, the youngest boy, goes into the wardrobe after he sees Lucy going into it in the middle of the night. He searches around and finds a sleigh. Inside the sleigh is the ice queen. He is unaware that this lady is evil.

In the morning, they hear a great cracking noise, and are astounded to see the Stone Table broken. Aslan has disappeared. Suddenly Susan and Lucy hear Aslan's voice from behind them. Aslan has risen from the dead. He says the innocent beings can not be killed on that table. Aslan carries the girls to the Witch's castle, where they free all the prisoners who have been turned to stone. He has the power to blow on the stone to melt it into the original being. Aslan, Susan, and Lucy join the battle between Peter's army and the Witch's troops. Peter and his troops are exhausted. Fortunately, Aslan swiftly kills the Witch and Peter's army then defeats the Witch's

The topic of Dr. Jeffres presentation was C.S. Lewis. The thesis centered on Lewis’s success despite adversity. Due to the format of the presentation, many of the key points of the lecture focused on important dates in Lewis’s life. One of the more notable dates that was discussed was the birth date of Lewis, which happened to be November 29, 1898. As was pointed out by Dr. Jeffres, Lewis was born in Ireland, which came as a bit of a surprise to me as for some reason I always believed he was born in Britain.…

Snow begins to fall in 17th century England as children are sold and bought along with the oncoming Christmas preparations. While other young ones their age are sitting around a tree with their loving parents, these children will be going somewhere much less desirable, with much more frigid people. These children, some as young as 4, had the unfortunate luck of being bought from their orphanages to be enslaved and made into chimney sweeps. The chimney sweeps are made to sleep in cold cellars with nothing to use as bedding or blanket except for the sacks they carry to fill with soot.…

Gothic literature can be classified by various characteristics. These characteristics can show up alone in some works, but when they appear simultaneously, the work can be determined as gothic. “Jane Eyre” (I would just italicize instead of “ but you do you) fully exhibits these common gothic elements; however, another work that incorporates many of these elements is “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Although at first glance, it appears to simply be a fairytale, upon deeper inspection, there are certain elements tied into the plotline that, I believe, classify it as a gothic tale. “Jane Eyre” is a classic example of gothic literature.…

Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Lewis artistically creates an alternate realm that is scattered with folklore and mythology ranging from Christian allegory to Greek gods. Some argue that the novel is too heavily based on Christian beliefs, but on the other hand some believe the novel to be a simple fantasy tale. Lewis introduces the four protagonist, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy as the “Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve” (Lewis 29). The four characters are human and Lewis blatantly relates them back to Adam and Eve, God’s first human beings. Another core reason to the heavy Christian undertone is the character, Aslan.…

Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm was popularly known as the “Grimms Brothers”, were characterized as one of the most dramatic writers in the 19th century. They were categorized by their short, simple sentences, colloquial language, and their well-organized approach to craft writings. Their writing was entitled Little Snow White, it was released in 1937 and it was about Snow White, a princess who falls into a deep, death-like rest after taking a bite from a poisoned apple. My impression about this narrative was an innocent little girl who had her step-mother hating her because of her beauty and kind-heart. The Little Snow-White by the Grimms Brothers is a fairy tale that reveals the goodness and the beauty of a little princess who is loved by all, however,…

This theme occurs in both the earthly world with the nice children versus the "evil", bullying ones, and in the other world, in Narnia, with the constant battle between Aslan and the descendents of the White Witch whom he battled from the time he created Narnia. The Evil Queen is a descendent of the original Witch and is constantly trying to overpower good with her evil, for example, using Prince Rilian, who will be recognized as a force of good, to help her to rule Narnia with her evil. Throughout the book acts of good are shown to overcome acts of evil, and the characters who act with evil in their hearts are eventually beaten by the forces of good that come from the good hearts of the children and the fact that they are doing what Aslan, the embodiment of Good, tells them to do. In a scene in The Silver Chair reminiscent of Jesus’ discussion with the Samaritan woman at the well described in John 4, Aslan speaks with Jill Pole on issues related to salvation and once again seeks, through those who serve him, to overcome evil with good, restoring Prince Rilian and, in the process, destroying the evil Witch of the…
