Book Review: Why Did The Allies Free France

Decent Essays
In my opinion, the book was fair. Though it has an exciting climax and detailed events, the ending was confusing because the book ended in the second year of world war two. I really wanted to know what is going to happen to Sophie and her family because if you know very little about world war two you would want to know when did the Allies free France. In other books, authors tell you about the whole years of world war two with important details. In this book, I think there are some parts that the author could have gotten rid of like the part she is talking about a Scottish soldier “I noticed his dark brown hair, pale freckly face and bright blue eyes. I thought he looked very young”. Instead of these descriptions, the author could write more

Although the story didn't involve as much action as an usual murder mystery, the characters were quite adorable, not only because of the fact that they were sheep, but because of their quirky, humorous personalities. The plot did go a little bit slow, and there were interludes between clues, but when the plot developed, it built up suspense and excitement. The main characters were fully developed, and each have their own strengths and weaknesses. There were some parts that gave me a laugh, and I quite enjoyed the simplicity of the novel. I didn't feel like the ending was rushed, unlike other novels where the author seems to just get to the resolution as soon as possible.…

To make me like this book, the author could have condensed it down to a smaller book and got right to the story. It would have also been more interesting if Stewart would have included conversation between the characters not just stating what happened. I mainly did not like the length or the writing style of the novel, but the information included in the book was very good and informed me of the struggles of the Donner party. If you were to read this book, you would have to be good at putting yourself in the time period that the novel was written in, or it will be hard to read. Overall, I thought the book was well written but…

Despite the excellent flow, there were a few flaws that could have been remedied. One of the flaws is the faintly abrupt ending. Regardless of the fact that the ending was engaging, pleasurable, and extremely relevant to the story, the resolution was a mere two chapters, which gave an impression of a slightly hurried ending. The ending, although it was well written, was somewhat diminutive.…

I did not like the way the book ends. The way it ends with Henry walking into the rain shower, he was hoping to rid himself of the red sickness of battle. The nightmare of the battle and the turmoil that he went through was in the past. As he continues on the road back to his camp, he looks to the sky, and he feels "an existence eternal peace just as the sun breaks through the clouds. After the charge Henry's self-confidence grew and he got the courage that he always desired in order to become the man he wanted and his comrades helped him to grow and mature.…

Sarah FINAL PAPER One of the historic problems in the world was imperialism and as a result, people in France are being separated and immigrants were being killed in the housing projects. Discrimination is an effect of immigration. In France they were discriminating by trying to put all people in one category, but they are against it because this says “France assumes that all colors, races and creeds will blend into a single people. The situation in the suburban housing projects goes against this model.” In France it was illegal to do that.…

The last hard copy piece of literature I read was the novel called “The Tiger’s Wife” by Téa Obreht. It is a 337 page literary fiction, involving magical realism, politics, and the supernatural. I read “The Tiger’s Wife” for english class and it took about one or two months to read the book. Although this is true, if I truly had time to read it without making annotations and journal entries, it would have taken only one day to read. The novel includes four important characters; Natalia, Natalia’s grandfather, the tiger’s wife, and Gavran Gailé.…

Most of the historians have falsely concluded cold war as a force on France to give up its ascendency by falling in with US and the west and the base of this conclusion lies on failure of France to achieve the peacemaking role between East and West or to achieve its goals in Germany. But the question that many historians have failed to answer is whether or not France achieved its goal of finding sovereign role in post-war Europe while keeping its independent minded nature and rebuilding its economy.…

The book and movie of The Great Gatsby were both pretty good but each had some differences. Some examples; In the book Nick meets Tom at his door and in the movie, Nick meets Tom at the dock and they are driven to Tom’s house. In the book, Gatsby has a relationship with a self-made millionaire, Dan Cody and in the movie this character is completely left out. Also, in the book the man who Nick refers to as “Owl Eyes” who he sees at one of Gatsby’s parties. He later drives his car into a ditch and in the movie, “Owl Eyes” doesn’t appear or is mentioned once.…

I say decent because it wasn’t necessarily bad but it wasn’t a book that I would have picked to read on my own. Book one was in my opinion very difficult to get through and understand without reading a few times. I did though like book two. It was much easier to read and understand, I also enjoyed really learning about Utopia (the “ideal” society). If the whole book was written the way Book One was then I believe I wouldn’t have got a lot out of this assignment besides it just being another assignment…
