Taking the place of OGs are new heroes like Miep Gies…” As mentioned before, it compares to Mr. Ross teaching style because both find a way to make their students interested in their lessons. Comparatively, Ms. Johnson and Ms. Gruwell both work with struggling, troubled kids. On the contrary, Mr. Ross teaches his students through “The Wave”, while Johnson teaches her kids the harsh way. The students pay attention to way Ms. Gruwell explained the important parts of history because their lives were similar to those who have made a remarkable moment in history and are memorable. Not only was the “unteachable” being taught, but also were getting inspired as well. These kids have caused a teacher and three substitutes to run away, but that didn’t stop Ms. Johnson to teach the students a lesson and get their minds straight. She had many methods to encourage and force her students to learn, even if it meant breaking the rule. At first, Ms. Johnson would reward her students, but if they didn’t follow her rules and direction, she would a series of methods to get them to listen. In the article it states ”So the fledgling teacher created her own curriculum, defying school rules to instruct her charges from college-level texts. And when hugs and kisses didn’t do the trick, she cajoled, tricked bluffed and even bribed the students into learning.” Ms. Johnson is a contumacious woman, meaning she doesn’t rules and for good reasons. In the article, it states “In defiance of a rule against touching students, Johnson frequently touched and even hugged hers, particularly if they’d enjoyed an academic success or just seemed to need a hug.” Likewise, to Ms. Gruwell teaching style not only do they work with troubled kids but they both show their students that they care about them. Ms. Gruwell shows by respecting and listening to them, while Ms. Johnson hugs them even she not suppose to. In addition, Mr Ross and Ms. Johnson both want their students to start a moment.
