In the non-fiction text, Born to Run, author Christopher McDougall criticizes corporate America because they sacrificed the joy and simplicity of running for selfish reasons. American corporations are blinded by their greed and ambition of bolstering their own market value. By doing so, they become careless with regards to the authenticity of their running products. McDougall suggests corporate America has influenced athletic achievement in terms of wealth, rather than in terms of wisdom (94). In “Born to Run” by Christopher McDougall, McDougall makes the argument that humans were “born to run.” In Chapter 28 specifically, he gives us a story of David Carrier and Dr. Bramble, who search for evidence to figure out if human bodies were made to run. Throughout this chapter, we get a detailed story of how questions were asked, tests were done, and answers were found, all to prove his claim that humans were “Born to Run.” McDougall is able to persuasively argue his point through using detailed descriptions of what was done to reach this theory, clearly ordering the events that took place, and using entertaining language. These things are what make “Born to Run” fun to read while still gaining information.…

Only eight sentences into her story, emotion stirring words appear such as “it was a terrible week”, “hospital”, “ICU”, and “weak” (Nolan 4). Most readers can emotional connect and relate to what the author is experiencing. Since she reveals how she overcomes such a disadvantage, the audience can trust in her. The audience is more likely to agree with her point or argument since they know she personally experienced a struggle to get there. If she were to bluntly insist that everyone needs to run, most readers wouldn’t take her advise serious.…

That changed when I heard one of my current best friends, Corinne, rushing down the bleacher stairs and begging me to go with her to the cross country meeting. In the introduction, chapter one and two in Race on The Move the author, Tiffany D. Joseph talks about how the categories of race differ from region to region, specific from the United States to Brazil. Someone that is considered black by American standards may be considered white or fairer skinned in Brazil. This is mainly the result of how differently the two countries treated the issue of race post slavery. This is a topic that we briefly touched on earlier in the class but Joseph digs a little deeper on the issue of race and how it changes by specifically talking about a small city in Brazil called Governador Valadares. Governador Valadares is so important in the context of racial differences between the United States and Brazil because…
