Mac Dougan's A Pitch In Time

What would you do if you went back in time to 1864? Would you want to stay or go back home? Mac Dougan, the main character in the historical fiction book A Pitch In Time chose to stay for a while then go back home to 2005. This is a slow moving book that gives a lot of details about standing up for yourself, I would recommend this to people who like historical fiction and sports and for ages 10-12. When Mac moved from Georgia to Michigan, he tumbled off of his bike and woke up in the spring of 1864 during the civil war. This was an event in his life that he will never be able to forget. Mac was a baseball player and since he was, he tried out for the baseball team. One of the town bullies Tommy, was the first to make Mac feel like …show more content…
One of the ways was when the coach at baseball yelled at Mac during practice, after getting yelled at Mac hit 2 home runs with a old bat. That impressed the coach and he got out in a better position. Another way that it was shown was when Mac was scared to climb the water tower and Tommy was bullying him calling him a chicken for not climbing it, soon enough Mac proved him wrong and leaved the town bully with no other mean stuff to say. The next way standing up for yourself showed was when Mac's mom knew that he was getting bullied from kids and Tommy so she tried encouraging him to stand up for himself the next day. And the next day, that's exactly what happened and showed that he wasn't going to stand back and let them pick him apart. I think that it's important to stand up for yourself because then you can show people that you won't let them be mean to you by calling you names and things like that. Just like Mac did going into this, he was shy and lacked self esteem but once he stood up for himself he wasn't afraid to show that he wasn't going to be …show more content…
This was a very slow moving book that required a lot of patients for people like me. I thought I would like this book because it sounded good but it wasn't as I expected it to be, it didn't suck me in like the other books that I've read. Some good things about the book was that it gave us a perspective on things on what it would be like to go back in time and have an accent that made kids tease you and other things like that. Even thought this was still a good book, it just wasn't for me since I don't like historical

The plague was always a medieval disease in my mind. I never saw it as anything more than a horror story in history. However, after reading Plague and Fire a book written by James C. Mohr, I learned a lot. The book showed me that my way of thinking was wrong and that there is much more to learn about the plague. Mohr used his book to tell an informative story about something most people have forgotten about.…

The tale I picked is Cuban: ‘In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd’ by Ana Menendez I chose this tale because the name simply lured me more than the other tale. This tale is about 4 men who gathered under a banyan tree every morning to play dominos and remember the old times. I didn’t like the story because it had many vocabulary that I didn’t understand, and sometimes I didn’t even understand what the man were talking about. "I'm not going to be the sad spectacle in someone's vacation slide show," Máximo, Antonio, Raúl, and Carlos got together every day in the morning to set under a banyan tree in a rectangle shaped park, and sometimes remember their homes when the wind passes through the tree leaves.…

So I aint no good girl, is based on a girl, who doesn’t want to be a goody-goody, she wants to be the attention grabber; she believes she won’t achieve that if she is a goody-goody, yet there are some flaws to the character, and the scene, the story adds up, most of the time. I for one, think that the author didn’t do a fantastic job trying to bring the character to life, I don’t think most of the problems she faces, would be something another girl would face, also some of the events that took place seem to be lacking in detail, for example, what is the main character’s name; and what is her main enemy’s name. It also seems the author had trouble on how to describe the scene, around the character, there was not of detail given about the…
