Beatrice and Virgil is a novel written by Yann Martel, a Canadian writer who is also the author of Man Booker Prize-winning novel Life of Pi. The book encloses an allegorical tale regarding the representation of the Holocaust. It is about the story of an author named Henry and his struggles in helping a taxidermist to complete a play about a donkey named Beatrice and a howler monkey named Virgil.

The story begins with Henry discussing his new manuscript with his editors, along with a bookseller and a historian. His idea is to sell an ill-conceived flip book that attempts to talk about the Holocaust in a completely original style.
