In order to achieve hope, one must perform actions in order to get results. This is shown throughout the entire book; it is in the beginning, middle, and end. In the beginning of the book the setting is with all of the kids crashing into the water, and making their way to the land. When they get to the land they see they’re on an island. They observe that the island has no adults on it from the crash. Once they see this they all look around a bit, and ponder what to do next. When they decide to look around Piggy finds a conch shell n the water. Piggy then tells how it used to be something he blew on to call his mother with, and she would come. After he told this story, Ralph got an idea. He said “ We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting, they’ll come hear us” (14). So they decided to test it out and when Ralph blew it, the other kids started to come out from the forest. From this there was a gathering on the beach. They all talked about how they will be saved. Ralph claims “My father’s in the Navy. He said there aren’t any unknown islands left. He says the queen has a big room full of maps and all the islands in the world are drawn there. So the queen’s got a picture of this island.” (45) Piggy, however, says the pilot told them (before the crash) that an atomic bomb had gone off and…
