Book Reports On The Giver

The novel “The Giver” is a story about people being trapped in a place where no evidence of disease, hunger, poverty, war, or lasting pain exists in the community. In this community everyone has a designated job. Even families are made for them. Parents are matched and their children aren’t their real kids. There is also no such thing as grandparents. Each family consists of a father a mother a son and daughter. His father is a Nurturer and his mother worked in the department of Justice. His sister’s name is Lilly. Every morning they have to discuss their dreams. A total of fifty infants are born to birth mothers every year. WHen they are going through a list and telling them what they’re job is they skipped him and he was nervous and worried. He didn’t know what had happened. When they told him that the job given to him is the receiver of memory, the highest position in this community. Jonas starts to train with an older man that he calls The Giver. The giver gives Jonas some emotions and memories that some people in the community refused to keep. HIs first memory was of him riding down a hill of snow in a sled. Then he learns what colors are. They’re all color blind every morning they take pills so that they won’t get sexual urges. he learns about love, war, and pain. He is NOt allowed to tell anyone what happens between those four walls. He finds himself struggling to not tell his friends Asher and Fiona, which leads to him asking himself if his parents had ever lied to him. He learns so much that he ends up realizing what the community really is. one day he went and asked the giver to show him a video of the release his father did on an infant that morning.
