Book Report: Summer Of My German Soldier

Summer Of My German Soldier takes place back in the day in Jenkinsville, Arkansas. Patty Bergen is a twelve-year old girl that is very adventurous and daring. She is not afraid to take risks just to get out of boredom. Patty is Jewish and part of a wealthy family. Pattie often gets abused by her father. Her father has many troubles with his past, but Paties mother is a beautiful young lady that is very proper and doesn't take no for an answer. Pattie has a new addition to the family. Her name is Ruth and she is there slave. Ruth is a very sweet southern girl that knows her dos and don'ts. Also Pattie has a younger sister. Patties younger sister take after mother. Last but not least Anton the only german soldier that speaks English.

Pattie is so bored. She has nothing to do but play cards with the old man that comes into her father's store. Until one day she heard the news. They search her house just to make sure she wasn't keeping anything else in there. She didn't know what to do. She didn't know what to say. Until one horrible day they told her that they had killed Anton. She was so devastated she cried for days and days. The resolution starts to fall when patty has to hire a lawyer and go to trial.
At the end of the story Patty emotions change toward her parents and herself. She no longer feels that her parents are superior to her, and she feels confidence in herself that she can begin her new life, striving to be a reporter. We can assume that Patty will move back home, after her stay at the reformatory school, but she will not spend her days bored and aiming to please her parents. She will keep learning her words and attend school. Patty will also not allow her parents affect her
