Book Report Soldier's Heart

Soldier's heart report Soldier's heart is a story about a 15 year old boy that has heard about the war that is going to happen. The boy, Charley Goddard is wanting to join the war to become a soldier but his mother does not want Charley to go to war but Charley thinks it will make himself a man. Charley goes anyway and lies about his age and joins. Charley makes eleven dollars a month and that is much more than what he make at the farm he was at. Charley is in a battle called the Bull run and he sees everything he is in the middle of the battle and he even says “make it all stop now!” he sees people dying right in front of him and many that is helping Charley gets killed here. From there Charley gets move to a camp where there are diseases going on and many of the men three die of these diseases that are here at the camp. That is another battle the soldiers had to face in this war. another thing in Fort Snelling they didn't even have a uniform for Charley “There was a pair of black pants that were short his calves showed, a pair of gray socks and a black felt hat.”( pg. 7 chapter 2). …show more content…
It shows what the soldiers had to do in order to survive and in order to win the Civil war for slavery and themselves. There were a great number of effects that the soldiers had to face. You see your fellow soldier die on the battlefield, as you are fighting and you can’t really help them because you don't want to get shot because you can't defend yourself. Some see there best friends die some even their family members die in war it's hard. You could have that in your mind for the rest of your life and that will be hard to get out you could think what you could have done to save them and protected them. Some even knew the people they had shot and killed it was a very bloody war you could have killed a lot of people. This war was bloody and people thought it would be a one battle and done and it was shocking that it last for four
