“You learn by living”, is book written by Eleanor Roosevelt. The success of Mrs. Roosevelt has inspired others through her responsive efforts of advising people that wrote her letters. In the first chapter, it talks about learning to learn, this begins with curiosity. Curiosity is what make people interested to understand things around them. According to Roosevelt (1960), “one thing life has taught me: if you are interested, you never have to look for new interests. They come to you.” pg. 14. In addition, she walks us through her journey of and how she recalls as young child being taught another language and memorizing the bible. This strengthen her memorizations as a child. She simply explains that without knowing yourself, you truly can not understand or accept others nor yourself. Also, one must be able to profit from constructive criticism as well in order to be mature. Readjustment is endless refers to how women is always adjusting in life. Adjustment is all about learning something new and restructuring our framework of knowledge. The next key idea that Eleanor roosevelt explains is, learning to be useful; this concludes that people want to feel relevant and useful. “We are facing a great danger today-the loss of our individuality”(Roosevelt, pg.111 1960). Society live by so many conformed ideals of living that we tend to lose ourselves in life. We all have to make choices and the sum of life is totally dependent on who we become in the nearest future. The next Key idea in learning to live, is taking part in politics. According to Roosevelt (1960), “How are we going to find out the facts? people ask me over and over” pg.173. This involves asking questions, talking with people who have different perspectives and allowing everybody to form their own judgements. Last but not least, learning to be a public servant, involves supporting other and having this willingness to support other needs. In addition, being a public servant requires and over-all interest in the community. Roosevelt also explains the need of perfect timing; “the moment at which people and circumstances are ripe to achieve results” (Roosevelt pg.197
