The next day, John and Lorraine go to Mr. Pignati’s home to compile the money they pranked out of him with a few prevarications. Things take an unexpected turn when the teens are asked to go to the zoo with Mr. Pignati, one of his favorite avocations. They end up going with him and they do all sorts of things, like meeting Bobo the chimp and going into the nocturnal room. John and Lorraine’s relationship with the old man deepens and they eventually begin to spend time together every day. The teens even give the old man the nickname, “The Pigman”. …show more content…
Pignati makes the children feel much more at home than what they do in their own antagonistic homes. One day, he invites them to explore his home, and the teens find funeral forms for a Conchetta Pignati, Mr. Pignati’s departed wife. The trio drinks wine, plays games, and even tries some of Mr. Pignati’s fancy hors d'oeuvres. Soon, the teens start bringing their own foods to Mr. Pignati’s because they don’t want to seem like ingrates. After all the fun the three friends have, John and Lorraine tell Mr. Pignati the truth of who they really
