This is a book report on The Hatchet, written by Gary Paulson. This book is about

Brian Robeson, and how he is trying to fly from New York to Canada. But lands in the Canadian

woods, after his pilot suffers a heart attack. The only thing he has to survive with is his hatchet

and his knowledge from survival shows. And the whole time his is thinking about the one thing

that ripped his family apart, “The Secret”.

Setting-

Brian lands in the Canadian woods in 1987. He lands in the water, but when he gets

out of the plane he is on the shore. Behind him are trees with berries. When he arrived he needed

to build a shelter. Right where he landed there was an overhang.

Plot-

Overnight there was a tornado. And it hit Brian very harsh. The bad thing is that it

tore his wooden door to his shelter that he had built. But the good news is that the tornado caused

the tail of the plain to rise to the surface of the water. Allowing Brian to build a raft, swim over

to the plane, dive underwater, break the window glass with his hatchet, and get the survival pack.

In the survival pack he finds two bars of soap, some freeze-dried food, a sleeping bag, a cooking

set, waterproof matches, some lighters, a knife, some bullets, a first-aid kit, scissors, a compass,

a cap that said CESSNA, a radio transmitter and a fishing kit. He took the radio transmitter and

turned it on after not hearing anything he threw it down and moved on to the next thing, not

realizing he left it on. The kit also contained a 22-survival rifle. He uses the lighter to re-start the

fire. And decided to cook some freeze-dried food using his cooking set. There where so many

choices to choose from. But after sorting through them all he finally chose a beef and potato

dinner, an orange drink, and a peach whip for
