I had no idea what the book titled A History of Islam in The America by Kambiz GhaneaBassiri was about and I would not be able to guess. However, after spending five weeks in this class, now I have a clue what is it about. In past, I just examine a cover a book and predict what it will be about. These are just details that I do not take the time to reflect upon. After talking with my professor, it really taught me how to pay attention to the obvious. In short, my paper will focus on the struggles I faced when I was reading the book. I will discuss some of the question raised during class discussion, the part of the reading that stood out the most to me, the reason why the author did mention women and some of the shocking things …show more content…
I have no idea what some of the words mean and because of this reason, I found it hard to follow along. Additionally, he provides so much information at once and some of the phrases are very lengthy. Moreover, they are certain information, I feel, is not unnecessary to provide. For instance, he mentions certain people in the text and never mentioned then again later on. Moreover, I like the fact that he provides these statistical analyses because it gives me an understanding of how many Muslims males and women migrated during this period. This appeal more to readers because it gives them reason to trust his work. The down side of is that why bring up females in data if so far, he did not mention nowhere in the text? It just unnecessary as some might argue.
Lastly, it is astonishing when the author mentions about some Muslims considering themselves as being the Prophets. I had no idea this part of the history exited In Islam. Especially knowing that Islam warns its followers from doing such disgraces, but then again we are all human beings and sometimes we take advantage of the vulnerable people. Particularly, when we know that we gain benefit from it. The author made me to want to learn more about this side of the history. Could be more of this part of the history
