In addition to the physical problems and realities of people lacking basic necessities for life Salva is also is facing emotional and physiological issues with the loss of his family and the isolation within itself. In these incredibly tough times salva has shown how hope can be as important than food and water can be. It’s amazing how someone can survive in those circumstances, but much more how he found the way to want to survive, that requires finding a source of determination, hope, and strength.

The first way that I noticed the determination and optimism within Salva was with him and his uncle. Salva has collapsed in the middle of the desert not only defeated by hunger and thirst, but emotionally drained with everything else going on, his uncle urges him to keep moving and pleading him to take it day by day, one step at a time, to keep moving forward. As shown, uncles power to be fearless and courageous slowly starts to rub off on Salva as he takes leadership when he successfully brings over one thousand children to safety in Kenya. He really shows his leadership when guiding the kids to take it “one step at a time”. He encouraged them and helped them to find there hope to keep going.”More than twelve hundred boys arrives safely. Another way I observed leadership is at the time when Salva has witnessed his dear Uncle getting murdered. Most likely horrified about what he had witnessed he somehow pulled out the courage to keep going and pulled out the strength to keeping fighting. Like most people watching there only family member get murdered they would’ve gave up, but not Salva. He learned and grew from these experiences. “But how can I not go on?
