Malcolm Gladwell's theory, where you are from determines success comes from the introduction The Roseto Mystery. According to Dr. Wolf the people of Roseto, Pennsylvania smoked heavily plus ate unhealthy foods as well as didn’t get much exercise. Later Dr. Wolf found that the Rosetans' heritage was the reason they were healthy and why they lived longer and had less cases of heart disease. According to page twenty and twenty-one shows a chart of the birth dates of a hockey team and most of the dates are January, February, and March. So that would mean that all of the hockey players who were born on the first three months would automatically have an advantage. The book also later mentions that the people that were on the team and weren't born in either of those months quit or weren't as good.
The last thing that determines success is a person's parents. In The Matthew Effect it mentions that parents around a middle class income are more involved with their children, while parents who are poor let their children grow on there
