This book starts off with Shannon and Cody getting sent to Seattle on a plane. When they first saw their uncle Neal, they were pretty freaked out because of the way he looked and acted. They eventually got use to him, luckily. Uncle Neal drives an ambulance for an animal rescue center. For example, when Shannon was in the elevator with the coyote and said, “How long I’d been in there, I had no idea. The coyote’s head had been down on its paws for some time now. Its ears were relaxed. I had a feeling it trusted me. It knew I’d come to help it, not hurt it. Animal intelligence.” This shows that we don’t need to be scared of something like a coyote because they even have a soft side. It let her pick it up and definitely trusted her. One more example is when Shannon, Cody, and some friends were cleaning out cages and just playing with their dog Sage when it says,” Sage’s ears went straight up, and she looked from Cody to me, and me back to Cody. From her nose to the tip of her tail, Sage was suddenly a live wire. She looked doubtfully at Cody, as if it couldn’t be true that he knew the code word.” This shows the relationship they had with their animals because the animals even knew the codes and signals they used. Animals are amazing like that and it’s way cool to see them grow up and get to that
