The book I read was Hole in My Life which is the autobiographical story of Jack Gantos during his earlier years. Born in 1951, he didn't have parental supervision so he was off doing his own thing. This is quite different from than other people's upbringings. Surviving by himself he learned many things about the real world. Born in the Virgin Island he returned to the states to finish high school, but unfortunately he didn't have any parents he could stay with so he was homeless for a short period of time, because he didn't take school seriously and partying habits took control over his life.…

Living abroad for part of his childhood, Gantos learned how to navigate the world his own way. Once he returned to the states to finish high school without his parents, however, his lack of focus and his partying nature left him without a permanent home.…

In the book Holes, Stanley was sent to a desert camp called Camp Green Lake, for a crime he didn’t commit. After a while, he relized that himself and the other boys weren’t digging for character, they’re digging for something else. At first, Stanley was a timid boy who was sent to a camp for a crime he didn’t do, but if it didn’t happen, he wouldn’t be the bold boy we all know today. Through the influence of Zero’s friendship, Stanley changed from a timid boy to a bold young man. At the beginning of the novel, Stanley was a bullied, shy boy who didn’t have any friends.…

I enjoyed reading your post, learning about your experience working at a homeless shelter, and the approach you incorporate. Look for holes is another great technique to incorporate with your clients and as a supervisor, with employees. The look for holes approach is diving deeper and looking for what the client is not discussing (Taibbi, 2013). The look for holes approach will allow the social worker to learn about the issues that the client has not discuss and overall maybe the main issue with the client. The look for holes approach can the client address their core issues.…

Can you imagine one single decision you make in your teens, influencing your life and leaving a lasting impact on who you are as a person? This happened in the memoir Hole in my Life by Jack Gantos. This story talks about his time that he spent in his late teens, about how he ended up in jail and even how he then ended up in college. However, the thing that made all these things possible was the choice he glossed over in the beginning, which was to move and live on his own. A choice while not minuscule, seems like a rather unimportant choice in a story about drug smuggling, but this is where it all began.…

“A lot of people don't believe in curses. A lot of people don't believe in yellow-spotted lizards either, but if one bites you, it doesn't make a difference whether you believe in it or not” (Sachar 41). Holes is a humorous take on the classic ‘adventure’ genre in children’s literature. It seamlessly blends several different themes and moods into one riveting story. It carries heavy ideas and scenarios, but with a whimsical and goofy air that entrances readers of any age.…
