Book Report On A Child Called It By Dave Pelzer

Improved Essays
“A Child Called It” by Dave Pelzer, this is hands down one of my favorite books it's extremely well written and includes gruesome details that you don't want to read but you can't put the book down.

Dave Pelzer is such a brave man for writing about his horrific abuse, he was forced to eat his own vomit, stabbed, forced to swallow ammonia and clorox all y his mom. But he also mentioned that there was the “good years” he said he was always so comfortable with his mom she always gave him that sense of warmth and safety that every child needs.

He was also very close with his dad he was “his hero”. His dad was a firefighter. David cannot escape his mother’s punishments. David’s father is caring and understanding, but cannot help David escape.

The two stories that stick out the most to me is the story of the man who was abused by his father every time his mother left. He grew up, got married and had children of his own, however his children were not allowed to be left alone with his father nor his mother. The other story I remember is the story…

"Peter's Lullaby: A song without words that held a little girl's life" is the most painful and horrific story I have ever read. It is a real story in which Jeanne Fowler narrates how growing up with an abusive and alcoholic mother was like. It was child abuse beyond the imaginable. Unlike other children whose lullaby are usually soothing, Fowler's lullaby was her young brother's screams of pain as he stood beaten. She begins her story by describing how the police rescued her siblings and her from unbearable torture during her few moments of being hung in her closet.…

Personal Response I thought Child Called It was a hard book to read. The book was not hard with the wording, the hard part of the book was the storyline. I believe no child should have to go through the life David had. The sad thing is things like that still happen. When David was dealing with his mother, and is father could see is pain.…

Something else that stood out to Jack was the idea that David made the abuse he encountered from mother a game or trying to survive also. He would not let her get the satisfaction of feeling like she won, instead of being concerned with the pain he was being put through. That even though the abused happened every night, David would still make up excuses as to why this was being done and yet he still would look for the good in mother when she pretended it was all over when the social worker was coming the next day. Reading David’s story, it impacts how we want those who are abused to know they should never give up. David pushed and pushed through every night and day of torture, saying he can make it through.…

One of the real issues which confront social orders in our days is child abuse and disregard. This issue has dependably existed; however, it is present that researchers are starting to find the unfortunate results that it prompts to. Disregard and manhandle are the same, aside from in one noteworthy distinction. By definition, disregard is the nonattendance of satisfactory social, passionate and physical care. Abuse, then again, is characterized as the no accidental physical assault on or harm to kids by people tending to them.…

The Little Prisoner by Jane Elliott This book was a powerful if not over powering story of a child whose step father abused her on every level of abuse; physical, mental, sexual, and emotional. The author of this book Jane, a pseudonym for the actual child, made the book come full circle. It started in the court room and was brought back to that pivotal moment when she is forced to face her attacker as an adult. It shows the reader the reaction of someone who clearly has no understanding the effects the child abuse Jane endured because the officer treated her like she was overreacting.…
