Book Report Quarter #1 The sports autobiography More Than a Season written by Dayton Moore, captures the life of current Kansas City Royals General Manager, Dayton Moore and the remarkable World Series run by the 2014 Royals team. This book shows the hard work and dedication it took to transform the Royals from the worst team in the MLB to an elite franchise. He is the only well-developed character because the book revolves around him. He demonstrates many wonderful traits in the book. He is an incredibly smart baseball man because of all the new coaches, players, and strategies he brought to Kansas City. He is extremely courageous for initially taking the job no one originally wanted or could succeed in. He takes risks in trades and signings, which can either, come out as good or bad. The vast majority of his trades have turned out to be excellent, such as the trade that sent Zack Greinke to the Milwaukee Brewers for several minor league players, including current Royals All-Stars Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar. He also traded minor league star Wil Meyers to the Tampa Bay Rays for pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis. This trade made many people furious because Meyers was supposed to become an MLB star, and he never did. It turned out successful because James Shields became the Royals ace pitcher and led them to the World Series, and Wade Davis who was unknown back then, has transformed into one of the best relief pitchers in baseball. The most important trait of Dayton Moore is his ability to be an impactful leader and set this franchise up for success. Dayton is a dynamic character in the book because he changes a lot from being a kid to a college baseball player and from an Atlanta Braves scout to the Royals …show more content…
One is “Never give up” which relates to Dayton Moore struggling in his first couple years in Kansas City and he never gave up until he finally built a winning team. Another theme is “Always believe” that relates to the Royals special World Series run in 2014 that changed the baseball culture in Kansas City. From the breath-taking Wild Card game to the heart-breaking Game 7 World Series loss, the players, coaches, and fans never lost hope and always believed in the Royals. Lastly, the theme “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is presented in the book as well. Dayton Moore came in to be the Royals GM after continuous seasons where the Royals were always last in the standings. He took one man’s trash and turned the Royals into treasure because they are now achieving great things and are the number one team in the American

In my book, Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25, the theme is teamwork. Throughout the entire book, the characters all help each other to achieve their shared goals. For example, when Michael needed a ride to Pasadena, the school bully who stayed back in school and has a license, got him there. Also, when Michael, Taylor, and Ostin started the Electroclan, they helped each other by researching what happened to them making them electrical. For these reasons, I think the following article, poem, and short video suite my book’s theme.…

The first theme is standing up for what matters to you. The author, Ria Voros, communicates her theme effectively by showing this in the main character as she stands up for what matters to her. An example in the text is when she stood up for james by making posters. It mentioned in the story what poster she was making “I speak to no one, hunch over my computer, type, cut/paste, download and with all the artistic talent I possess, create” (pg.182). This shows that she is standing up for her friend by using her artistic talent to show everyone that James was something to her.…
