The book title is somewhat mysterious and it makes me thinking “What sets a company apart from the rest of the crowd?” “How hard is it?” “What are the common grounds of those great companies?” etc. Then I started reading the book with those questions. The first bold sentence occurred in my eyes is “Good is the enemy of great” which strike a chord with me (page 1). People are usually being satisfied with their current situation and feel comfortable in “good”. They do not yearn for a better life, they even do not have extra energy to chase it. I guess this is the reason why there are only a minority of people reaching success. Jim Collins uses professional expertise and vocabularies in stating his views, and personally I think his opinions were well-structured and well-developed. Those examples and quotations that are used in this book brings direct information to the audiences, which personally I believe is a great way to penetrating ideas to audiences. The illustration and tables in each chapter also provide audiences enough statistics to understand those concepts behind it. At the end of the book, he lists all of the companies and the frequency they appeared before in order to help us have a clear understanding. What’s more, the proper nouns are minutely explained for audiences which do not understand. Doing this is extremely thoughtful and considerate and I suggest all of the writers should add some explanatory notes at the end of the articles. By providing the questionnaire and the Q&As also helps readers understand the contents
