Do you value your own life instead of your family’s? Antigone in the Story Sophocles, Antigone did not do the right thing by burying her brother. In this book Antigone has a brother that has passed away and Creon the leader, Which is Antigone’s uncle will not bury him and allow him to be in the afterlife, so Antigone buries her brother while risking her life to Creon.
Obviously, Family comes first, Antigone will die if she disobeys the law. If Antigone disobeys the law and ends up being executed Antigone’s body will possibly not be buried. Antigone trying to convince her sister Ismene, Antigone says,”You must decide whether you will help me or not”. Antigone trying to pressure Ismene into helping her. Ismene will be punished for knowing about the burial even though she had nothing to do with the “burial”, which is putting Antigone’s sister Ismene’s life at risk. Ismene will be punished for “attempting” to take Creon’s throne, because creon is paranoid that his nephew’s Ismene and Antigone are planning to overrule him or take his throne. …show more content…
Antigone not only buried her brother, but broke Creon’s law doing so. Creon was going to humiliate his Nephew, his blood. Antigone was going to be humiliated in front of the chorus, until Creon found out that Antigone was his son’s bride. Creon was not only outraged but upset over the fact that his son Haemon was going to marry a “crazy girl”. Motivated by his love for her, he argues with Creon about the latter's decision to punish her. Creon, in spite of his son’s love he was not going to humiliate Antigone, he was now going to make her suffer.
