It has been quite a while since I had read a book other than instructional and technical manuals due to heavy work and family commitments. When I was tasked to do a book reflection, I felt apprehensive and was worried, wondering if I could grasp its contents in great depth. Eventually, I mustered the courage and told myself that if the pages of the book was never opened, I would never know how much I could have accomplish, let alone graduating from my course. The pages of the book was opened and read, and I never regret my decision. The book was by Mr Siong Guan Lim with Mdm Joanne H. The SAF Leadership Framework as it serves as an important guide for me to lead in my vocation and specialization. After reading the book, I can relate much from its inspiring contents to the SAF leadership frame work. The SAF Leadership Framework consists of four hierarchy of building blocks, namely, Values, Competencies, Styles and Self. As written and shared in the book, a good leader understands the mission of the organization and state the vision which will define the tangible goals and outcomes that defines the organization’s success. The book has helped and advised me in stating mission and vision and clearly to the people I would lead in the present or future. The SAF core values are important as they served as the basic foundations for an SAF. I feel immensely proud of the success of my organization due to how it steadfastly instills its core values. As a leader of my organization I should not defer from the core values due to influence but instead emphasis its importance to the best I can to the people I lead in the present or future. In the book, I have learnt how the competency level of a Leader affects the organization. A Leader is appointed to lead a certain mission for the organization. Every personnel serving in the SAF is given an opportunity to lead in time to come, in various aspect, in a small or a large scale.
