The Book of Songs is one of the oldest collections of poems in ancient China. From the poems, we are able to know that the crops and farming techniques of ancient Chinese villages are not very advanced. The tools they could used for cropping and farming were plows and choppers. They did not have any farming machine. According to the poems, people used plows to farm and “take that chopper and bill to lop the far boughs and high, pull towards them the tender leaves.” Moreover, as the poems mention, “The girls take their deep baskets and follow the path under the wall to gather the soft mulberry-leaves……They gather the white aster in crowds.” If people wanted to gather a crop, they had to do it in person instead of using any machines.
