All the people who are refusing the Lord are the antagonist in the passage. In an allegorical sense, the Lord choses people that he can claim as judges to deliver the sons of Israel from their enemies just like he chooses Jesus to deliver his people from evil into salvation in the New Testament. “The Lord was with the judge, and he saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge” , the divine author states that he is the one who delivers from evil, he can choose who he wants to work through for the redemption of his people. The cycle of sin, slavery, supplication, and salvation that is represented in this passages in Judges 2:1-23, in an allegorical sense would eventually lead the chosen messiah. This passage prefigures Christ because the divine author gives the people of Israel warning that he is going to test their fidelity . In Matthew 1:20-21, the Lord sent an angel to appear to Joseph in a dream and he said “do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” The judges that the Lord raised up in this passage prefigures Jesus Christ who he raised up in the New Testament.
