God will always remain faithful to his covenant with his people. In the book of Judges, God shows his faithfulness by selecting corrupt leaders, called judges, to deliver the people of Israel from their enemies. Sometime after the death of Joshua, the people of Israel started to assimilate with their neighboring pagan tribes, The Canaanites instead of driving them out of the Promise Land as The Lord had commanded . In Judges 2:1-23, the story of Israel’s disobedience and faithfulness is exposed. This passage served as an introduction for the rest of the book of Judges , and as a warning of the inevitable cycle of that Israel is about to face dealing with sin, oppression, repentance, deliverance and peace .

In Matthew 1:20-21, the Lord sent an angel to appear to Joseph in a dream and he said “do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” The judges that the Lord raised up in this passage prefigures Jesus Christ who he raised up in the New Testament.
