Book Drive Research Paper

Service-learning projects are opportunities for students to learn through experience and serve their community at the same time. Schools want to encourage students to participate in projects that give back to the community. An on-going book drive would be a valuable service-learning project because it will help the less fortunate, students will be more involved in their community, and it will put old books to good use for the better of the community. For most people living in shelters or low-income neighborhoods and towns, buying reading material is not one of their biggest concerns. Having students organize and participate in a book drive as a service-learning project would help the less fortunate and people who can’t afford to buy books. Having books in shelters is not only a source of entertainment for adults and children but also very educational. By doing this service-learning project, the students would not only show kindness and compassion, but also build relationships with other generous people in the community. Anyone can donate books to the donation spots and students could even go pick up books from a person's home. As well as donation spots, in every building in the school students could also set up book exchanges. If a person brings a book to donate they can exchange it for a book they have never read. By donating the books to places in need, teenagers will also get a chance to personally help the less fortunate. People living in shelters will be grateful that students have come together to supply reading materials for them.
