Book Changed My Life

Improved Essays
Reading, I've never found it intriguing or meaningful. Which is ironic because a book changed my life. That a book I chose out of the millions of books was destined to be the one that would change my life. You might think it's an exaggeration of me saying that this book changed my life-well it's not. This book changed my perspective on life. A task that had seemed impossible. A book did. This book was "How it All got started" by Ramses M. It details the life of hip-hop icons and all the stumbling blocks they had to overcome. The way the book was written it made me feel like I could relate to these hip-hop icons. It made me relate to them so much that I feel that's why it had such an impact on my life. It made me feel this book was exclusively made for me like It was a one of one piece. …show more content…
I related to the book because the book highlights key moments in the lives of the hip-hop icons life where they faced adversities like; doubters, disbelief, isolation, and fear. The doubt and disbelief were the main parts of the book where I heavily related to, because so many times in my life I've had many people doubt me or say I'm not good enough to do certain tasks and the disbelief was unavoidable. I felt I had to seek help in my life because I could not believe in my skills. That feeling that I was incapable of doing certain tasks or if people didn't believe in me, it would make me shy away from "hard tasks" these were things I resented because of the feeling it gave me. I felt like a fish out of water.

The Book That Chose Me. Given that I’m not much of a reader I must first say that my book choice was not initial nor was it a simple “eeny, meenie, miny, moe” pick. When I first looked at the list of books I had no clue as to which book to choose for this assignment, so I decided to look up the ratings for each and narrow the list of books to those that interested me. To my surprise there were three book which caught my interest and had good reviews: The Coke Machine, The Race Myth, and Gang Leader for a Day: A Rogue Sociologist Takes to the Streets.…

Final Essay Have you ever imagined what would happen if the ozone layer was utterly destroyed and the amount of sun rays reaching the earth dramatically increased? In Naomi’s Klein book, This Changes Everything, the author elucidates how the increasing awareness of the adverse effects of extractive processes on the environment has triggered the formation of many environmental movements. Blockadia is one of the most recent movements that has adopted a different strategy compared to earlier ones. “Blockadia is not a specific location on a map but rather a roving transnational conflict zone that is cropping up with increasing frequency and intensity wherever extractive projects are attempting to dig and drill” (Klein 294). This initiative is composed…

Some of the artists that I knew that surprised me was Ice Cube, Eminem, Jay-Z, and Pit Bull. Jeffrey Ogbar gives the reader really good historical context and I learned many things that I did not know before. I would recommend this book to people who are actually interested in hip hop and the history behind it because Jeffrey O. G. Ogbar addresses a lot of aspects of hip hop history and he expands upon it, making the reader want to know more. The book starts with the negative stereotypes of the African Americans.…

As a beginning reader young adult books captivated me with what, at the time, were intriguing and comprehensible plot lines. Thus began my love affair with books. Eventually, those plot lines became my adversary, when their simplicity triggered a soporific rendition of the book. It persisted until the gifts of classical literature unwrapped as I learned to penetrate, explore, and discover meanings in, for example, Dickens’ lengthy description of a clock tower did I truly find my beloved. Although young adult books had their place in my life by inspiring a love for reading, classical literature has opened up a whole new perspective, teaching me to seek out knowledge while still yielding enjoyment as I consume each book.…

Besides that, reading has brought me to many various levels of emotions, such as joy, love, hate, fear, and sorrow. Some stories not only make me feel euphoric with happy endings, but they also make me feel despondent when a character’s deep sorrow touched my heart.…

Of course, I was just a little girl at that time, learning along with millions of others in the world what is the proper way to pronounce words. That time of my life I was not only learning how to speak but also read, being familiar with words.
