Hartinger is an author from Tacoma, Washington. Hartinger struggled as author for many years, because no one admired his work he was very much an amate ur writer. As the years passed Hartinger became a better writer and he wrote his first book that became his famous well-known book, Geography Club. Geography Club is about a sophomore teenage boy named Russel who is gay and is convinced he is the only gay student in his entire high school. One night he agrees to meet with someone from a local chat room and the person he agrees to met is a popular jock Kevin Land who is gay. Later Russel finds out that even one of his best friend is a bisexual and he learns about others students' sexuality. They form a club, but they don’t want to call it a Gay-Straight Alliance instead they come up with a club so boring no one would join, the “Geography Club”. The club is a place the teenagers can hang out and not be discovered or need to hide their truth self's. Hartinger had an interview with the National Coalition Against Censorship, the NCAC asks what was the inspiration for Geography Club and Hartinger explains, “You know, it’s partly because the story is semi-autobiographical – I was a gay teen – and I figured if I told this story, it might make things a little bit easier for the gay teens who come after me.” This book is a wonderful story teenagers accepting themselves and the …show more content…
