Atticus Finch Greed

In the brilliant and memorable novel To Kill a Mockingbird a theme in this book occurs often. In the book Atticus Finch tells his children that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird and the reason being is because all they do is make beautiful music for everyone. Atticus saying this relates so much more to the book than originally thought. There are three main characters in this book who are metaphorically mockingbirds. Being a mockingbird is not having wings or a beak, but truly doing only the right thing. All the following people did just that they did what was morally correct for them. It was a sin to harm these men.

The first man to discus is Atticus Finch. Atticus is a man who avoided conflict and avoided hatred or vengeance, he never caused harm to anything or anyone, and for that he was a mockingbird. The reason he is a mockingbird is that Tom always told the truth and he did work for the women who betrayed him for free on multiple occasions. He never hurt anyone and was so helpful to anyone and everyone. Tom Robinson was accused of raping Mayella Ewell in her home. Tom did not do this and that becomes more evident throughout the story as he is well mannered, and even Mayella admits to Tom Robinson working for her for free. As his trial advances we learn that Tom Robinson is incapable of using his left hand, and the sheriff strictly recalls having seen hand marks all the way around her throat. Although all this evidence proves Tom guilty he was still sent to prison for one reason, he was an African American. Later in prison he died while trying to escape, because to him he was dead if he stayed there anyway. This was wrong because Tom was a good man who never harmed anyone, but he was killed because of the fact that he was an African
