During the Holocaust, many Jews were killed and brutalized just because they were Jews. This started with diminishing the Jew’s rights being taken away and then being put into concentration camps. Some of the Jews lived through this experience to tell their stories and make sure something like the Holocaust never happens again. Surviving the Angel of Death by Eva Mozes Kor and Lisa Rojany Buccieri is one piece of literature that shows the brutalization that happened during the Holocaust. Eva Mozes fights against brutalization in this novel to make sure something like the Holocaust never happens again. She wrote The Angel of Death to pass on her story and make sure it never happens again. This was one we she chose to stop the brutalization of the Jews. Even though writing the book doesn’t directly stop the brutalization of Jews in the future, it definitely helps. It has to be hard for her to relive the situation over and over again in her head as she tells her story. This is her way of fighting brutalization in the future though so she feels that she has to do it. When Eva Mozes was young, she didn’t realize why her Aunt wanted to tell the story of what happened at the camos because of how bad it was but realized later in life. When people know what has happened and realize how bad things like this actually are, it is less likely for people to do it. These stories show how so many Jews were brutalized and how so many people turned away because they thought it was okay when it is clearly not okay and this gives people a sense of humanity in a way. It gives people a sense of humanity because they feel bad for what happened to the Jews and they also want to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Also, making people aware of these situations and how they start with people thinking that it won’t happen to them makes people realize that it can happen to them. The told their stories because they realized that the only way to fight against brutalization was to try and stop future acts. Eva Mozes did this by writing the novel Surviving the Angel of Death and showing how she chose to fight against brutalization in the concentration camps. Hoffman the other men fought against brutalization in The Grey Zone by saving a girl and destroying part of the camp. Just because what Eva Mozes, Hoffman and the other men did were small acts, they still help fight against brutalization. The helped fight brutalization physically at the camps and later by telling their stories. Brutalization is a bad thing and it takes a lot of courage to fight against
