Antonio's Belief In God In Bless Me Ultima

Throughout Bless Me Ultima, Antonio's belief in God is tested within the book. Antonio thinks about God's chose within moments of tragic events. " I could not understand why Narciso, who did good in trying to help Ultima that lost his life" pg 186. He began questioning there being either one or many Gods, when he met Samuel. Samuel told Antonio about the Golden Carp, " A new god?' I could not believe this strange story and yet I could not disbelieve Samuel" pg 81. Antonio has concerns about who he may be when he's older, a Luna or Marez. " My mother said the Marez clan was fall of free thinkers, which was a blasphemy to her" pg. 29. " My mother dreamed of me becoming a priest, because there had not been a Luna priest [...] for many

Tony worries about Ultima because of Tenorio obsession over having vengeance on her. Antonio worries about there being a God and the connection with him. The first communion confused him because he hadn't received an answer from God. He was expecting a connection to God and having his question answered from God. " A thousand questions pushed through my mind, but the voice within me did not answer" pg 221.
Heart:
Tony cared a lot about Ultima, they had a connection within the beginning the book. " You will never die Ultima [...] I will take care of you" pg 12. Antonio took Ultima straight to his heart, he cared for her safety. He admired the magic she used to help others and was taught about the different herbs. He didn't want Ultima to die and would've dwelled on her death. Ultima knew that he had witness too much death and told him: "Love life, and if despair enters your heart [...] I shall be with you-" pg 261.

They kept him on the ground and proceeded to beat him. " The angry kids and I could see that their hunger for vengeance was directed at me" pg 214. " They were upon me, clawing, kicking, tearing off the jackets, defrocking me" pg 214. Antonio had also drop to his knees for Ultima dying on her bed. Tony was destroyed knowing that Ultima death was her fate, noting couldn't have changed that. "I entered Ultima's room softly [...] I placed the owl by her side and knelt at the side of the bed".
Right Foot:
Antonio has been trying to find all of the answers that are clouding his mind. The tragic events have happen are what needs to be answered by God. Tony dwelled in the darkness of the tragedies that have happen throughout the novel. Ultima had suggested for him to stay with his Uncle to find a resolution. The end of the book had shown that he develop as a person because he had felt like being a man. " Take them to their room [...] It was the first time I had ever spoken to my mother as a man" pg 259.
