A Walk to Beautiful tells the life story of country singer and songwriter Jimmy Wayne who, unfortunately, was put through, but luckily, overcame various severe obstacles and challenges he faced throughout his life. The book not only follows the experiences he faced but shows the people he met who impacted his life along the way and shadows his road to success as a musician and someone who strives to make a difference in the lives of those who have been through similar experiences.
Jimmy Wayne was not always a successful music star. Like some, he started out with nothing. Jimmy and his sister Patricia were frequently bouncing in and out of the foster care system. They both grew up in an environment of drugs, alcohol, and chaos. Although they did have a mother, she was mentally unstable and repeatedly chose her lovers over her own children. In all honestly it’s a miracle Jimmy and his sister managed to survive all the years they did in such terrible conditions; they both survived being hungry and homeless for several days at a time. Being hungry and homeless is not the only trauma Jimmy went through. Patricia, at a very young age, was sent off by her mother to marry a man. It’s not what you think though. However, much to my surprise, the book was an enjoyable read. The content in the book was truly eye opening and made me realize that there are many people out in the world who have it way worse than me; my problems in life do not even compare to others. Lastly, because of Jimmy Wayne and his book, I now have a brighter outlook on life and realize that everything happens for a reason. Rather than seeing the glass half empty, I now see it half
