The movie To Kill a Mockingbird, based on the novel written by Harper Lee showed the life of a child during the Great Depression and captured the theme of innocence taken away by evil. In most cases the book is always better than the film because life lessons are taken away in greater detail and are much easier to apply to a reader's life. Many movies stray from the book as did To Kill a Mockingbird, but also captured the scenes not shown in the book. Unlike the book, the movie had taken away the relationship that Boo Radley had with the children. One part of the book which was not shown in the movie was Mrs. Maudie's house fire when Boo Radley had draped a blanket over Scout’s shoulders while Jem and Scout were standing in the cold.…

The town of maycomb has discriminated him for so long he has stayed inside his house but when scout and jem start poking around he tries to protect them through the events of the novel. Boo Radley represents a mockingbird because he always tries to help and protect jem and scout, he never attempted to harm anyone, and due to his destruction of innocence. Throughout literature, an author places a foil, for a main character or minor character that enables them to grow and develop as a character and emphasizes the theme of the book as a whole. A foil in literature is a character who shows opposing or contrasting qualities to another character. A foil is often used to show the unique characteristics of a person by comparing his actions, words, and thoughts of another character. A foil can be someone who compliments the character's actions and goals or it can be someone who represents the opposite of what the character is or hopes to be, in order to emphasize that character’s importance to the novel and emphasizes the central theme to which can be applied today. What Makes Boo Radley so Fascinating in To Kill a Mockingbird? For years, nobody in Maycomb County had seen Boo Radley, meaning citizens relied on the stories told about him to determine his characteristics. Scout, Jem, and Dill were curious as to who Boo Radley really was, as all they had was their imagination to assume his traits. For example, Jem described Boo, or Arthur, as six and a half feet tall with eyes that popped out and having blood stained hands because he ate raw dead animals.…

When discovering our own personal identities, there are a great number of things that can sway the way that identity ends up looking. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee explores how the influence of isolation, discrimination and loneliness can reflect upon our identities. Evidence of how these feelings impact our individual identities can clearly be seen in the lives of characters Tom Robinson, Mayella Ewell and Boo (Arthur) Radley. Boo Radley is perhaps the most misunderstood character that Harper Lee crafted. Scout and Jem believe he is a monster who eats raw animals, a great giant of a man with yellow teeth and perpetually bloodstained hands.…

“At any given moment, public opinion is a chaos of superstition, misinformation, and prejudice” (Gore Vidal). In Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee suggests that innocent people are so often misunderstood. Growing up in the small southern town of Maycomb County, young Scout learns through her father, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from their point of view… until you climb into their skin and walk around in it.” (Harper Lee 30). This is exemplified through the numerous victims of injustices within Maycomb, such as Tom Robinson, Mayella Ewell, and the mysterious Boo Radley.…
