Boo Radley Incident Essay

I predict that, despite strenuous efforts on their parts, the kids will never meet the mysterious Arthur 'Boo' Radley. One piece of evidence in support of this theory is the simple fact that Boo has hardly ever been seen outside of his home. The Radley family has always been a reclusive family on the whole, even before Boo’s incident. None of the family attended church, a noted oddity in a small, Southern town like Maycomb. They also kept their house tightly shuttered and the doors locked fast. Mr. and Mrs. Radley are almost as rare a sight about the town of Maycomb as their son; Mr. Radley, prior to his death, leaving only for groceries, and returning promptly, and Mrs. Radley only occasionally spotted on the front porch watering her flowers. …show more content…
One night, the boys went too far in their rowdy carousing and were arrested on a host of charges. This was the incident leading to the Boo’s industrial school sentence, and following seclusion in his own home. During his confinement, as mentioned in previously, Boo had another ‘incident’ that only added to the aura of fear that surrounds him. One day, while Mr. Radley was going about his daily business, his son plunged a scissors into his thigh. People suggested Boo be sent to an asylum, but Mr. Radley would not allow it. Another factor that cultivates the general quality of mystery and fright that Boo Radley maintains are the rich myths and legends surrounding his existence. Pecans that have fallen in the Radley yard will kill you should you be so unwise as to eat them. When the flowers freeze overnight, it must be because Boo Radley himself has breathed on them. According to town lore, the man leaves the house at night, stalking the town and peeping through windows. All of these factors add to the general fear of Boo Radley, something that may lessen the trio’s efforts towards meeting him . These are the reasons I predict the kids will not meet Boo
