Bonnie Tyler Hero Meaning

Decent Essays
Do you know the meaning of hero? By Webster’s School Dictionary, the definition of hero is one that shows great courage. In the song, “Holding out for a Hero” as sung by Bonnie Tyler, we believe that word hero could be referring to someone she wishes to share her life with.
We have found evidence for our theory that Bonnie Tyler’s hero is her partner. In the first stanza of the song she asks, “Where have all the good men gone?” She also states that she hopes to find a white knight on fiery steed, as referring to King Arthur, a brave warrior who was well known for his nobility. In addition to this, in the chorus of the song she specifically states about her hero being a man that is strong, fast, and fresh from the fight.

Hero’s are everyday people that have done something for the greater good. A hero is a person who has gone out of their way to help or save something or someone from danger. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines a hero as, a person, typically a man who is admired for having courage or having outstanding achievements (Merriam-Webster). In my opinion this book definition is wrong, because heroes aren’t just men.
