Many things were lost, including lives, buildings, and land. In Hiroshima about 83,000 died but there is no exact number and about 20,000 koreans lost their lives while 27,000 returned to Korea. The bomb wiped out 90% of the city; killing 80,000 immediately and others died later from radiation. The city was mostly rebuilt later on. While 3 days later in Nagasaki about 40,000 people died and 40% of the city were lost because the area is mountainous. 2.6 square miles were destroyed, then 2.4 miles were rebuilt. Only 12% of the city wasn’t destroyed. Both cities had severe fire damage which increased because of the wind. They also experienced severe structural damage. The survivors had radiation caused health issues such as; cancer, leukemia, shortened life span, loss of vigor (physical strength and good health), growth and development disorders, sterility, genetic alteration, abnormal pigmentation, hair loss,and epidemiological (control of diseases) changes. The radiation is still affecting people 70 years later, because some survivors are still alive, and as well as the radiation affects to the genetics are being passed on through new generations.
