On the island you will find frequent celebrations known as Catholic Feast Days. The celebrations feature dancing, loud music, singing, gambling and amusement park rides. There are many different kinds of dance in Puerto Rico. The most traditional dances are Bomba and Plena. The Plena dance is made by couples dancing a simple choreography, performed at an intense pace, accompanying energetic drum beats. The bomba dance was develop by the West African slaves, used to celebrate baptism, and other festive traditions. Dancers each challenge the drums and musicians with their movement and performing rapid steps.
