a bomb shelter begins as a hole in the ground, it will then be molded into a round or square shape with concrete and lead. after the concrete and lead harden you will make a hole to enter the shelter. once the hole is made you will recover it with dirt and grassy stuff. add a door and air filtration. add some furniture and you are done!
Through the ages, bomb shelters have used many different materials to protect its inhabitants. However, a modern bomb shelter requires many materials for possible protection. As you could imagine, shielding from gamma rays is one of the most important features a bomb shelter could have. Although it seems complicated, any material can stop gamma rays from reaching your base, as long as it’s thick enough. So you have protection from the gamma rays, now you have to survive the impact. Firstly, the main purpose of bomb shelters is to block radiation. This is not as simple as it may seem, various measures need to be taken to block out deadly radiation. Each shelter even has protection factor (PF) which represents how safe a shelter is in terms of radiation. Another extremely important part of survival is water. Food is of course needed, but humans can go a long time without it. Water however, is something that humans need to consume very often in order to survive. This means, that for humans to survive for long periods of time, shelters must have a fairly large amount of storage. Yet another important factor, is air ventilation and filtration. This is important because without proper ventilation, it would become unbearably hot within a shelter.
