“Leadership is less about position or title and more about character, values, and behavior” (Hock, 2015, p. 12). While many of these charter traits, values, and behaviors of a good leader are innate, they require mindful development, evaluation, and renewal. Bolman and Gallos (2011) write leaders at their best use the qualities of focus, passion, wisdom, courage, and integrity to foster the growth and improvements of those around them and their institutions. Daskal (2015) writes, “life is about discovering who we are; leading is about striving to become better than we are, and helping everything and everyone around us to become better too” (para. 1). A good or great leader holds a commitment to the intentional work of fostering growth and betterment of others, one's institution, and oneself. …show more content…
Leadership is more than just skills and finding one's style, leadership is about recognizing one's calling and then actively working to learn and grow, enhancing one's personal strengths and building a diverse team. As Daskal (2015) alludes to leadership is a journey.
