Bolman and Deal (2008) explained that effective leadership could be listed as leaders who displayed “honesty, passion, trust, risk taking, flexibility, self-confidence... and management by walking around to name a few” (p. 677). Although, the components of effective leadership are contingent on the circumstances surrounded by the situation (Bolman & Deal, 2008). All of the components mentioned above are excellent leadership qualities; however, Bolman and Deal (2008) suggested that universal effective leadership does not work in all situations. Nevertheless, Bolman and Deal (2008) mentioned that focus and vision leadership abilities stood out among most leaders.

The components of effective leadership and the characteristics of effective leaders apply to the four frames by uniquely focusing on the “possibilities for leadership” (Bolman & Deal, 2008, p. 528). Bolman and Deal (2008) noted that “structural leaders rethink relationship of structure, strategy and environment” (p. 510). In order to rethink, their needs to be a clear vision and focus in the direction the leader wants to take the organization (Bolman & Deal, 2008). For example, Bolman and Deal (2008) explained that GM Vice President anticipated a growing company, he restructured accordingly. The Human Resource Leadership frame is a caring and understanding leader who uses emotions to inspire employees (Bolman & Deal, 2008). People-oriented leaders, make employees feel as if they are a part of the organization (Bolman & Deal, 2008). Bolman and Deal (2008) suggested that political leaders are straight forward and to the point. Symbolic Leaders focuses on symbolic leadership, such as “beliefs, traditions, myths, rituals and ceremonies” (p. 522). Many times Symbolic Leaders tell stories to encourage or motivate employees (Bolman & Deal, 2008).
