26 year-old Fatima Abdullahi states, “”After two weeks they came back and killed him. They had told him to stay. Then, they just shot him. They didn’t say anything” (21). Another example is when Hauwa Abubakar, 24, lived under Boko Haram’s rule and witnessed a mass murder.
Boko Haram has though of different methods to persuade citizens to fall under their rule. They say “No more killing. Forgive us, and follow our doctrine” (31). They were telling the citizens that they were protecting them and they would kill no more, shortly after murdering thousands of innocent people. They would make people pray three times a day or they would murder them, saying that they were doing a “job of God” by killing people (35). The people they captured were kept in very harsh conditions. If children and men were not killed by not obeying the law the first time, they would ask them to join them. No one wanted to, so with that, they would be killed, because they were opposing the rule of Boko
