Boiling Range Lab Report

The boiling range of the azeotrope 80.9-100°C is most similar to the ethanol-water azeotrope (bp. 78°C). This is based off of the lower end of the Boiling range because the reaction mixture is heated until temperature reach 100°C in order to remove all of the azeotrope within the mixture. This leaves ethyl o-toluate, ethyl m-toluate, ethyl o-chlorobenzoate, and ethyl benzoate as possible unknown esters.

One physical properties of the distillate were determined. The boiling range(80.9-100°C) is most similar to azeotrope of ethanol-water which eliminates several possibility’s leaving only ethyl o-toluate, ethyl m-toluate, ethyl o-chlorobenzoate, and ethyl benzoate as possible unknown esters. More data is needed to fully conclude the identity
