Fat vs Body Positivity Many women and men showed dissatisfaction with their bodies. But now there is a new trend going on that is described as body positivity. This trend could be defined a person accepting their body as well as color, size or even shape. The big idea for body positivity is body acceptance. It is a great idea due to a person being able to feel comfortable in their skin. For many years, many stars in Hollywood have always been treated differently due to their how their body looks. Stars that are overweight are usually cast as the funny fat friend. Roles like these have now begin to decline due to the new idea of body positivity. One person is who thinks that is Mary Elizabeth Dallas, she shares that fat shaming doesn’t encourage weight loss in individuals. What was found during a study by the Cancer Research UK Health Behavior Centre at University College London (UCL) that fat shaming doesn’t encourage weight loss in individuals. What was also found during the study that is published in a article by Mary Elizabeth Dallas, there is contradictions that the common perception that discrimination or 'fat shaming ' might encourage weight loss. The study asked people whether they experienced day-to-day discrimination that they attributed to their weight. Examples of discrimination include being treated disrespectfully, receiving poor service in shops, and being harassed. Also what was found says Janne Wardle, who is the director of the Cancer Research UK Health Behavior Centre at University College London and the study’s senior author states “ weight discrimination is part of the obesity problem and not the solution.” Wardle also added “Weight bias has been documented not only among the general public but also among health professionals, and many obese patients report being treated disrespectfully by doctors because of their weight. Everyone, including doctors, should stop blaming and shaming people for their weight and offer support, and where appropriate, treatment.” Offering support to people is the best medicine to help a person. Some now believe even if you are not the ideal size you are still beautiful. But other criticized the growing movement of body positivity. The critics feel that it unhealthy to be overweight and should be shame. The discrimination of someone is overweight has been a problem for movie stars. For years many stars couldn 't get a job due them be overweight. Then luckily enough if they got a role it was only for a certain one and not the main one. There has always been an stigma relating to people who are overweight. This problem spreads from movies, magazines, other sources of media. There is some light at the end of this tunnel. The stigma has now been seeing a decrease due to the body positivity movement. But at the end of the day people should be able to feel comfortable in their own skin and be able to see people of different sizes on media outlets. Shaming in the end will always look negative and never be able to change a person if they are comfortable in their body.
