When I was in 5th grade, my mom took away my Xbox controllers and handheld gaming devices in a bag and then hid them because she was managing how much I played. I remember that when she did this it bugged me, and I sought for a way to pay on my handheld devices whenever I wanted since they were small and portable. I thought and I thought until a light bulb gleamed in my head. I had figured it out. The idea that sprang up into my thought seemed flawless and I eagerly planned my way of action. My idea was to put a video camera onto a ledge in the same room where I knew my mom hid the bag. I went into the room and as my enterprising mind found places that might suit my needs; I placed the camera to test if it would stay still, if the angle was correct, and if it wasn't

I felt audacious and perhaps a little reluctant wondering if I had made the right decision. When my mom brought up the bag from the basement, I went and checked on the camera from the furnace room. I then took it up to my room in a swift matter and I eagerly thought about my results. As I watched I realized that I had missed it due to the angle of the camera and I felt annoyed. I planned to not make the same mistake again in the future. I went back to the basement and thought of a new placement for the camera. I put it on a shelf that was cluttered with a bunch of other things. What I didn't realize is that the spot exposed my camera a lot more and it was a hasty move. I probably should have thought it through a little longer and should have sure that it wasn't exposed too much. I again went upstairs and at the next opportunity, I asked my mom to go get the controllers. Nothing and I mean nothing could have prepared me for what happened

In the article “Unteaching the Five-Paragraph Essay”, Foley , argues that the five-paragraph formula discourages students from discovering new ideas, and also prevents them from thinking creatively. The five-paragraph formula continues to be taught in high schools is because of teacher survival. According to the author the five-paragraph formula distorts the mindset of the students as well as counters basic goals of writing. Foley argues that "as soon as students meet their quota of three body paragraph, they are free to stop thinking about their topic." Because the formula of the five-paragraph essay indicates to students that they need only to develop three points that support a thesis, neglecting the connecting relationships between these…

To my esteemed English teacher, By writing you this letter, I hope to demonstrate my growth throughout the year and my final mastery of the course’s content. During the revision of the synthesis, I mostly adjusted the shape of the piece; grammar and syntax needed to be fixed in many passages in order to provide a clearer explanation of my ideas. Nevertheless, the rhetorical analysis needed further labor on the content; precisely, the explanation of the author’s use of a certain rhetorical device to achieve his purpose needed to be more detailed. I wrote the both pieces keeping in mind that my audience would be extremely educated upon English language and composition.…

The artifact I chose for standard 6 was the letter I wrote to my student’s parents for PED 356. This letter was sent to the parents of the student to inform them of the behavior I noticed, improvements made through out the semester, and skills that could be worked on at home. The letter to parents from PED 356 relates to Element 6.4 because in the letter I demonstrate my ability to discuss some weaknesses that could be improved in a respectful and sensitive manor. I first discussed in the letter the great personality the student expressed during class and all the improvement she made through out the semester.…

While most kids were outside playing in the mud and dirt, I was sitting inside on a couch, comfortable, clean, and happy to do so. As a child, I detested the idea of getting my clothes dirty. I loved to be able to maintain the pristine cleanliness of my outfit, so I often refused to play outside. Instead, I resorted to a crimson red Gameboy SP with a blazing LED screen, almost too big for my hands, for my childhood action. I’d live out intense fantasies in that three inch square.…

Some of the most appealing documents I’ve seen have been at the libraries on campus. This pamphlet for the Scholars’ Commons Series of the 2016 spring semester, which is available at the Library Services desk of the Wells Library is one of the best I’ve seen in terms of its use of repetition. The document’s rhetorical purpose is to promote the Scholar’s Commons research and publishing workshops to staff and students of IU. Both the color and typography aid in achieving this purpose, as they are consistent throughout the entire document, and thus, provide the audience with extremely accessible and organized information. The mint green that encapsulates the title on the cover of the pamphlet, and is given the most weight on the cover, is used…

Plagued with countless random thoughts constantly popping in your head it can be challenging so sit down and write something worth a second read. However many writers have formed some sort of ritual to aid the paper they are writing. One of the rituals that distanced itself from the rest would have to be taking a steamy scorching hot shower minutes prior to writing anything. My skin tingles just thinking about how hot the shower is and how much stress is relived. Equally important is the stress factor of a big paper or even your first paper of the semester.…

1st Body Paragraph: (Associated Violent Behavior) If the drinking age is lowered, domestic violence would become more common in American homes, since a lower drinking age will only elevate the risk of alcohol-fueled domestic violence. According to a study conducted by researchers, it has been proven that alcohol consumption is a key factor and cause of domestic violence and that drinking by either the female or male partner increases the chance of relationship problems and aggressive behavior. Based on a WHO study, nearly half of all physically abusive husbands drink and most the violence committed by them happens during intoxication.…
