Media puts an image of the “perfect body” which is not obtainable for the normal woman or man in society's head and if you do not look like that you are not pretty. In an article in NY Daily News, “One in five women said they are actively planning or considering plastic surgery”(Plastic Surgery). In a world so focused on looks it is no surprise that women are going to extremes to achieve these goals. Blanche feels like an old maid and being beautiful is the only thing that will get her a husband, she wears only the best clothes and is always wearing makeup to make sure she feels beautiful. Blanche cares more about what other people think of her that what she feels about herself because as long as she looks good nothing else matters. If Blanche was alive today she would definitely find the money to undergo many procedures to fix all of the imperfecting she felt she had. The low self esteem that Blanche has leads to her relationships not working because how can someone else love you if you do not love yourself and feel confident in yourself.If Blanche focused less on her appearance and more on her character and the people around her she would be a much happier person.
