Body Fluids
What are body fluids? Body fluids, also known as bio fluids are fluids or liquids that are found and are created from the inside of animal and human bodies. These include fluids that are released by the body through excretion and secretion as well the water that is found in the human bodies.
When it comes to body fluids, the majority percentage of liquid that makes up the body fluids in a person is body water. It is said that about 60% of the body water in people is contained inside the cells which is called intracellular fluid, intra meaning inside, while the remaining 40% of water is found outside the cells known as extracellular fluids.
The composition of fluids outside the cells includes …show more content…
A large part of the human body itself is made up of water. For us to be able to live and our body to be able to function properly we must ensure that the body is composed of the right amount of body water. This is a part of fluid balance which is an aspect of homeostasis which is essential for our survival.
Body water is distributed all over the body and each part of the body is allocated a certain percentage to ensure it functions as it should. An average male adult consists of 69 percent of water when it comes to weight. Some of the factors that contribute in the variations in body water percentage in a person are age, sex/gender, health and weight.
In animals and humans, most of the body water is distributed and contained in the many body fluids in the body. These include the intracellular fluids inside the cells. The extracellular fluids outside cells, Plasma, interstitial fluid and transcellular fluids.
Water is also however distributed and contained in the various organs, in gastrointestinal, cerebrospinal spinal, peritoneal, and ocular fluids. Also, Adipose tissue contains about 10% of water while muscle tissue is made up of about 75%
