Sex, Drugs, Technology, and Body Dysmorphic Disorder. What do these four important words have in common? These four words fall into a category known as addiction. As teens get older they start to experience Sex addiction, Drug addiction, Technology addiction, and Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Each addiction can cause a teen to go through different behaviors and can cause different effects on the teenage body. The roughest addiction that teens go through is sex addiction, so, let’s start with that. Sex addictions in teenagers are a hard thing to stop due to treatments and support from family and friends. Back then, teens were limited to what they were allowed to listen to or watch. As for today, teens are no longer limited to what they can listen to or watch and everything they hear is explicit. Explicit can be known as graphic, uncensored, for example, sex scenes in movies, and cuss words. Movies are rated based on their content in the movie; PG, PG-13, R, MA, E, T, G. For example, all horror movies and video games are rated R because of their content, and in some countries there are movies that are banned. Teens can be dramatically affected by having a sex addiction in life. Their sex addiction could go too far and they could become pregnant. If a teenager becomes pregnant, it is because they were not safe. Being a teenage mom could ruin the teenager’s life because, the teen will have to care for the baby and the teen will not be able to have fun. Now, a teen can have an abortion or adoption for the baby, but if they plan to keep the baby, the baby is their first priority. In 2014, there were a total of 249,078 babies that were born in the world to women who were between the ages of 15-19, but thankfully there was a drop of 9% in 2013. Solutions to solving teen pregnancy could come in handy for a teen who has a sex addiction. There are 5 good ways that parents could have with their teens who have a sex addiction or who want to become pregnant. One, have the sex talk, two, explain the differences between safe and unsafe sex, three, teach your teen to care about herself, four, lay down consequences, and five, realize you can only try and talk to your teen. The more parents talk to their teens about sex and how it is not good to become a teen mom, the teen pregnancy rate could decrease or increase depending on the teen's decisions. Now onto the next topic, teen drug addiction. Drug addictions are what teens go through to experiment and get the feel of what it is like to do drugs. Common drugs that teens do are; Alcohol, Meth, Cocaine, Marijuana, and etc. These drugs are common to teens who are drug dealers or who just want to try it. There are other causes of having a technology addiction; weight gain or weight loss, Carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, neck and back pains, and dry, red eyes. These are causes of watching TV or playing video games for a long period of time. Now there are effects to having a technology addiction; such as teen behavior, Isolation, Obesity, Depression, Poor sleeping habits, and etc. Teens can be affected by playing too many video games all the time along with watching too much TV. These effects could be terrible for teens because it can cause teens to go crazy. Teens can choose to play video games all day every day, or they can choose to take care of their body and limit themselves to what they play or watch. Solutions to teen technology addiction can come in handy when a teen becomes anti- social. Despite what Chris Bergman says in Don’t Limit Your Teen’s Screen Time and Danah Boyd says in Blame Society, Not the Screen Time, teens do inappropriately obsess over technology and the Internet. Boyd proficiently explains that teens use technology to interact with their friends because schoolwork completely consumes them. Whereas Bergman elaborates that technology is beneficial because it allows kids to learn essential life skills, such as spending money. However, in this paper I will discuss body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) along with a focus on Muscle Dysphoria (MD). I agree with your response that adolescents tend to developed excessive attention into their physical appearance. I believe that body dysmorphic disorder might be more frequent during puberty because it’s when the body is starting to fully develop. Therefore, some adolescents might be concerned with their physical appearance when experiencing peer pressure, observing their body changes in the mirror or even by observing the media content. I also agree with your response in referencing with the treatment because by exposing a patient with people who might be experiencing the same disorder will helped them identified with it.
