In years past, the use of body cameras in Law Enforcement may have prevented many debates and riots due to undisputable video of certain controversial events. The Rialto police department implemented body cameras for one year trial period, throughout the year of testing, the department saw drastic changes. The use of force amongst officers dropped fifty-nine percent. A truly staggering statistic, Eighty-seven percent decrease of complaints against officers. The cameras videotape all of the activities the officer, including any potentially controversial incidents. Would the Ferguson incident have raised as much concern and controversy if someone caught it on film? Many police officers believe it wouldn’t have. Officers wearing a camera have a responsibly to tell the suspect of the camera. Once made aware of the cameras suspects have a tendency to become far less violent and extremely reasonable. Law enforcement has changed abundantly since the beginning. The police body cameras would cost a lot of money, but president Obama tried to pass a bill to fund the cameras for law enforcement. Police body cameras come in all shapes and sizes. Although some cameras have lights to notify civilians of recording; many cameras have night mode that turns off all lights. Most cameras do not have a visible light, or a light at all. Body cameras are an influential tool in the Law Enforcement arsenal. Many body cameras do not exceed the size of a deck of cards. Some citizens believe that the body cameras are an invasion of privacy, but citizens have the ability to video tape an officer whenever they want. If the citizen can video tape an officer why do many see it as a problem for the officers to? No matter how expensive the cameras are they ability to authenticate the actions of the
