Bobsleigh originated in St. Moritz Switzerland as a recreational sport for tourists. The first competitions began in 1884. Bobsleigh’s governing body, the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation was founded in 1923. A year later, bobsleigh was included in the first Winter Olympic Games. The two-man bobsleigh event was added in the 1932 Winter Olympics. It was excluded in the 1960 Olympics but ever since has been contested. Women’s bobsleigh was demonstrated in 1983 at the Olympic and World cup games. The first ever two-woman bobsleigh event was introduced in the 2002 winter Olympics.

The final rankings are based on the fastest aggregate time. Race times are calculated to the hundredth second giving the most accurate results. Bobsleds with crew members have a weight limit. The four-man race is restricted to not more than 630 kilograms, the two-man race to not more than 390 kilograms, and two-woman race to not more than 340 kilograms. After the races are concluded, checks are done to rule out any unfair play. Athletes are required to wear a set of protective gear and clothing. Helmets and eye goggles are mandatory. Another sled can only be pushed into the track after one has finished. The track design should follow set regulations to alleviate any risks of injuries. The track should be between 1200 and 1300 meters in length. The track should be elevated in such a way that it drops from 110 meters to 125 meters. It should also accommodate sleds in a way that speeds of 80 to 100 miles an hour can be attained in the first 250 meters. The score for the race even if the sled is upside down as long as the athletes are still in
