Newton were the founders of the Black Panther Party. Newton was born in Louisiana on February 17, 1942 and then his family moved to Oakland in hope of having a better life. He similar to many other Black children faced discrimination at school, teachers made him believed that white people were “smart,” while Black people were “dumb.” Since he believed in that stereotype he began to adapt a rebellious attitude. Newton began attending Oakland City College where he entered Afro-American Association, which’s main goal was to create a sense of pride for Blacks and their history. By being apart of this group Newton gained knowledge about how Blacks had evolved, although, he left the organization due to the differences of values him and the leader (Donald Warden) had. Warden had other priorities, and he also followed social norms even if it contradicted what the organization was trying to promote. As Newton read more in college he aligned his beliefs to the economic system of socialism, because he strongly believed that capitalism and racism tied together. Newton at the age of twenty-two went to jail for something he was falsely accused of. However, in jail he was able to reflect on his past and for once be free from external influences. After he was freed he became actively involved with Bobby Seale to create a Black movement that would
